What a weekend on the beach.

We filmed this last Saturday and Sunday on the beach in Fort Pierce, Fl. It really doesn’t get too much better than this-calm, clear and warm. Saturday was the Surfrider Foundation Beach Clean up at Pepper Park. We spent a couple of hours picking up trash, but I couldn’t resist the chance to get in the water.

I have discovered something much harder than catching fish. Getting those little buggers to sit still long enough for you to film them is a pain. They are totally uncooperative. Sadly, a pair of snook swam down the beach, but I couldn’t get close enough to capture them with the camera. I was bummed, but the underwater stuff came out ok for our first try.

Surfrider Beach Clean-up

Both of my kids are required to do community service for their schools, so Saturday morning the local Surfrider Foundation was sponsoring a beach clean-up at Blind Creek and Fredrick Douglas Beaches. We were up early and at it before 8 am.

Like most people, I notice the trash on the beaches, but until you actually start putting it into bags does the amount of garbage become apparent. In a very short stretch of beach, the groups, which included girl scout troops, I.R.S.C. students and individuals, filled dozens of bags of trash. One of the things that stood out most, was as a group walked down the beach filling their bags, you could follow behind them and fill your bag then a group following you would fill their bags.

We followed the beach clean up with a delicious lunch at Archie’s. It was a great morning and everyone ended up feeling good about the day helping our beaches.
